Roads for Life reaps international recognition for Lebanon
12 March 2016
"5 years of sustained Advanced Trauma Life Support Courses”
Since October 2011, in partnership with Fransabank, Roads For Life has promoted and sponsored training courses to more than 400 doctors in emergency units in 90 Lebanese governmental and private hospitals all over the country, so that they became certified Advanced Trauma Life Support providers.
The Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS®) is a systematic, concise training for the early care of trauma patients. Given at AUBMC three times in 2011, the ATLS® course needed a sustainable fund to ensure its continuity. Roads for Life entered into a collaboration with AUBMC and began sponsoring the ATLS® for ER physicians across all hospital ER rooms of Lebanon giving the course sustainability year after year.
At the ATLS® Global Symposium Conference held in San Francisco in October 2011, the American College of Surgeons granted Roads for Life its first international acknowledgement and credibility for the efforts it made adopting and reinforcing trauma courses in Lebanon.
After three years of promoting, sponsoring and training courses, in June 2014, Roads For Life lobbied the Ministry of Public Health in Lebanon which resulted in the issuing of Circular number 51 that “urged governmental and private hospitals to delegate its medical doctors and registered nursing personnel to take part in the ATLS® and ATCN® training sessions”.
It was in San Diego last March 2016 at the ATLS® Global Symposium Conference, that Lebanon was recognized and Roads for Life thanked for its years’ of services and dedabiication.
Zeina Kassem, president of Roads for Life and Dr. Georges Abi Saad MD, FACS, Professor of Clinical Surgery, Head, trauma Services and Surgical Critical Care, Chair ATLS® - Lebanon & Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Director, Continuing Medical Education and member of Roads for Life’s scientific committee, received the recognition award from the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma recognizing the 5 Year Anniversary of the ATLS® program’s development in Lebanon sponsored by Roads for Life since 2011 in partnership with Fransabank.
