Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support®

PHTLS for Paramedics

The Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support® (PHTLS®) is recognized worldwide as the “leading continuing education program for pre-hospital emergency trauma care”.

PHTLS programs are developed from the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Program, a course for physicians developed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. They follow the principles of trauma care developed by the Committee on Trauma.

The mission of the PHTLS® is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of pre-hospital care. PHTLS® improves the quality of trauma care provided and decreases mortality. PHTLS® gives victims of trauma the best possible chance of survival prior to their arrival at the hospital.

PHTLS® promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS providers are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care.

Since 2013, Roads For Life has trained over 600 paramedics in PHTLS®.
